Makeup tips for oily skin

Getting your makeup to stay during the summer months is one thing, but pairing this with oily skin is a whole new level. But fear not, we’re here to help tackle all of your oily skin troubles to keep your makeup intact for longer.

This step-by-step guide will give you expert advice on how to prep the skin for makeup, whilst explaining which makeup products are the best for oily skin types…

1

PREP THE SKIN. Never skip this stage when you’re prone to oily skin, it’s important to give your makeup an oil-free base to ensure that it stays put and doesn’t slide off throughout the day. First and foremost, cleansing the skin is key as this will help to remove any excess oil and impurities. We suggest using an oil-free cleanser that won’t leave any residue. Secondly, try using a light serum rather than a moisturiser to minimise the amount of products on the skin. Finally, opt for a mattifying, oil-control primer prior to foundation to provide you with the perfect base. Our Matte Veil Primer is great for controlling shine throughout the day, whilst keeping skin looking healthy and balanced.

TOP TIP: make sure you’re giving problem areas extra attention, i.e. the T-Zone, forehead, nose and chin. We suggest lightly dabbing the product into these ares in particular to limit the amount of excess oil produced throughout the day.

2

PREP THE EYES. We’ve all been there – the eye shadow that you spent such a long time on ends up creasing and looking non-existent by midday. Although you may not realise it, your eye lids are extremely prone to grease as it can get caught between the creases in your lids, causing your eye shadow to slide off. We suggest avoiding using concealer as a primer on the lids as this is most-likely to crease and can actually end up ageing the skin by extenuating any fine lines you may have. Instead, try using your mattifying primer by lightly dabbing the product around the eye area prior to makeup application. This will help to keep your lids looking perfect throughout the day.

TOP TIP: Try mixing your eye shadow with our Sealing Gel to create a highly pigmented, long-wearing, water-resistant colour on the eyes.

AVOID TOO MUCH POWDER. It might seem like the best thing to do when you have oily skin, however when too much powder is applied, it can actually cause skin to produce more oil and result in makeup looking ‘cakey’. We suggest always opting for a Matte Translucent Powder – perfect for keeping shine to a minimum on all skin tones and is extremely light so will never feel heavy on the skin. For the ultimate matte finish, we suggest dabbing your translucent powder on your problem areas BEFORE AND AFTER foundation application. Our Loose Powder also comes with a makeup puff, meaning it is perfect for keeping in your handbag and lightly dabbing onto those problem areas throughout the day.

GO OIL FREE. Your skin is already producing more oil than it should, so it’s important to avoid products that contain oil, this is particularly important for your Foundation and Blusher. It’s also important to avoid applying thick layers of foundation as this can result in your face looking cakey. Our Rich Liquid Foundation is ideal for extremely oily skin as its water-resistant formula conditions the skin whilst absorbing ingredients help to reduce excess oil, providing you with a perfect, semi-matte finish.

5

ALWAYS GO FOR LONG-WEAR. When choosing your makeup products, always try and opt for products that are long-wearing and/or water-proof as this will avoid your makeup melting off by the end of the day. This is particularly important to consider for your eye liner which tends to transfer easily. Our Gel Liner is excellent for oily skin types due to its thick, yet waterproof formula.
