Backstage at London Fashion Week

Pablo Rodriguez

We welcomed Pablo Rodriguez to the Artistry Team earlier this year, and his wealth of knowledge and experience in runway beauty brought Illamasqua to this year’s LFW where he created authentic looks for three catwalk shows. Here is a behind the scenes look at Pablo in action, prepping the models to showcase the vibrant collections designed by Richard Malone, Marta Jakubowski and Mark Fast.

We asked Pablo, ‘What was your favourite part of your involvement with LFW?’…

… “When you see an army of models lined up, dressed with hair and makeup ready to go; that is when the vision becomes a reality”

Richard Malone: Olympic Skin

Award-winning, Irish designer Richard Malone exhibits a unique style in his collections taking inspiration from sculpture and emphasising a focus on sustainable fashion; a fitting designer to kick-start the shows after the announcement of a fur-free fashion week.

Pablo created a wet-look glow to the skin using cult product Hydra Veil, giving the skin a visible glossy finish. The finished look showcased a natural flush to mimic a healthy, active sheen on the catwalk.

“I saturated the skin to give a healthy, super-hydrated and sporty appearance. It’s like a glass of water for the skin”

-Pablo Rodriguez

Apply Hydra Veil to fresh, clean skin before adding a subtle touch of Skin Base Concealer Pen to even out the skin tone. To achieve the wet-look glow saturate the skin with a second layer of Hydra Veil, focusing on the eyelids, lashes and brows using a (flat-headed) Face Brush. To finish the look, create a natural flush of colour by warming up the Glamore Lipstick in Rockabilly (sheer, deep red) and push the product into the lips and cheeks to achieve a stained look.

Marta Jakubowski: Throwing it back to the old school

Marta Jakubowski’s signature minimalist style was the inspiration behind Pablo’s clean, minimal makeup look, paired with a vibrant, bold lip. Jakubowski displayed her collection at the SS19 LFW under the NEWGEN initiative, designed to nurture the new generation of fashion’s emerging, young talent. This season’s collection was inspired by a nineties colour block vibe, channelling the designer’s nostalgic adolescence and nineties raves.

Pablo co-ordinated bold lips with the colourful garments designed by Marta Jabowski using the coveted Antimatter Lipstick collection. The makeup focused on a neon lip, inspired by a look back to the nineties through the neon, technicolour collection by Jabowski.

“To add to the nineties element…there are three different neon lips floating on the face”

-Pablo Rodriguez

To achieve this look, Pablo chose the super saturated pigments and semi-matte formula of the Antimatter collection. The look featured shades Vibrate; a vivid violet, a mixture of the two shades Eurydice and Isotope lipsticks to create a neon pink and Flare; a vibrant orange shade. Keeping the skin dewy and fresh, Pablo applied Beyond Veil Primer to create a light shimmer, enhancing the models’ natural features by highlighting the high points of the face with Gleam Cream in Aurora. Gently pat the Gleam Cream in a half-moon shape around the temples and onto the cheek bones before adding a touch of bronzer to the cheeks and depth to the eyes using Antimatter lipstick in shade Lyra.

Mark Fast: Let the eyes do the talking

Knitwear designer, Mark Fast, combined Lycra yarns and natural fibres, taking fresh inspiration from the past and translating historical style into a modern and contemporary aesthetic.

The make-up looks for Mark’s show harmonised hues of the collection through simplistic one-shade, intensified eye looks to emphasise and complement the colour palette of the collection.

“Eye make-up is the focus…it co-ordinates with the technicolour looks that he models are wearing, but is even brighter”

-Pablo Rodriguez

Get the Look: Let the eyes do the talking

To achieve the luminous, saturated colour, intensify the super high pigmented eye shadows by creating an eye shadow base using Antimatter lipstick in Eclipse (luminous white) to illuminate the high pigmented eye shadows from The Reign of Rock’s Experimental Palette (coming soon! Sign up here.) The white-out colour of Eclipse and the consistency of the lipstick base will hold the product in place and exaggerate the pigment. Take the product directly from the lipstick bullet using an Eye Shadow Blending Brush and buff onto the lid, blending outwards from the crease into a rounded shape. Pack the vibrant shades onto the lid with a dense Eye Shadow Brush and blend out using a clean Blending Brush, following the natural rounded shape of the eye until you achieve the desired colour and shape. Finish with a chunky application of Masquara in Raven and your preferred nude lip shade.
